Grand Days Out at Whistlebare
We are delighted to invite you to join us, and one of our brilliant guest tutors, Karie Westermann, Maddie Harvey or Nathan Taylor aka Sockmatician, for a Grand Day out at Whistlebare.
This last year we converted a barn next to the farmhouse into a beautiful new hall with views across the fields down to Holy Island and the sea where we will hold special woolly events. We are very excited that Karie, Maddie and Nathan have all agreed to come and be part of our Grand Days Out and very much hope that you will want to join us too.
We are very proud of our livestock husbandry and the environmental care we take of our land and we know that our customers care about this too. So, as well as learning exciting new skills with our guest tutors we are offering to show you all around Whistlebare and introduce you to our goats, sheep, pigs and chickens. We will also feed you regularly on home baked cake and lunch made from local produce, all diets can be catered for but please let us know in advance.
Please scroll down for a full description of the different workshops each tutor is offering.
Included in the day are
- Knitting workshop with guest tutor and two skeins of Whistlebare Yarn.
- Morning coffee/tea and cake.
- Home cooked lunch of soup, bread and local cheese.
- Afternoon coffee/tea with yes, more cake!
- Meeting the livestock and easy farm walk.
- 10% discount on any purchase made on the day.
We really hope that you will visit us for a Grand Day Out as we can’t wait to show off our beautiful animals in amazing Northumberland and even learn a few new knitting skills ourselves!
Karie Westermann is a knitting designer and tutor much loved by us at Whistlebare. Her use of colour and her influences from nature and literature are inspirational and we would happily knit everything she has designed. She loves bright colour palettes just like us, and we are very excited that she’s joining us at Whistlebare.
We are thrilled that Karie is designing a dramatic shawl with our very own Yeavering Bell yarn to produce a pattern that she will teach from at our workshops.
There will be sessions with Karie in both the morning and the afternoon so hopefully you will leave Whistlebare fully equipped to complete the shawl. Your first 2 skeins of Yeavering Bell are included.
Karie is joining us for two dates, Saturday 25th May and Saturday 12th October.
Nathan Taylor, known in the knitting world as ‘Sockmatician’, travels all over the globe passing on his knitting skills. He has an extremely popular podcast on YouTube, an extensive pattern collection and a new book. His passion for Demystifying Double Knitting is what he is bringing to Whistlebare and he will be teaching this wonderful way of creating stunning effects in reversible, two-sided knitting.
Before attending this class it would be good to have some experience of working with two yarns at the same time. Two small contrasting shades of Cheviot Marsh yarn, for swatching, will be included as well as two full skeins for your first double knitting project!
Nathan is at Whistlebare on 22nd June 2019.
Maddie is a freelance designer and knitting teacher who creates bold and simple knitwear designs inspired by colour and geometry.
In the morning Maddie will be teaching a choose colour workshop, this is a playful class where we will experiment with colour and texture to create colourful working swatches.
This will be followed by a project workshop based on the pattern Maddie has designed for us using a combination of our Yeavering Bell 4ply and our Cheviot Marsh 4 ply.
Lots of oddments of Yeavering Bell and Cheviot Marsh Yarn will be on hand for Maddie’s colour class and a full skein of Yeavering Bell and of Cheviot Marsh are included for your shawl.
Maddie will be joining us on Saturday 6th July.
