Brackenside Pines hat and cowl.
We’re really thrilled to be collaborating again with the wonderful Katt from the Heather and Hops knitting podcast on YouTube, who designed the gorgeous Spring Intentions Wrap. Katt recently spent some time on the farm helping with the shearing and whilst she was here she was inspired to design this fabulous hat, and the Brackenside Pines Jersey.
A cosy hat for the cooler weather, it’s knitted using Yeavering Bell DK & Cheviot Marsh 4ply yarns held together throughout. The Yeavering Bell bestows a luxurious shine and drape and the Cheviot Marsh adds bounce creating a deeply squishy and cosy knit, perfect for keeping away the cold winds and enveloping you in a warm embrace.
You need to choose a Main Colour – MC and a Contrast Colour – CC for both yarns. The Yeavering Bell colours can all be see if you scroll down this page. The Cheviot Marsh colours can be seen in the photo gallery. If you need help choosing and combining colours just ask!
Brackenside Pines is a simple knits with fun features to keep you interested for the whole project, it includes a tubular cast-on, and a fun colourwork pattern with a little texture. The details have been inspired by a glorious line of trees near Whistlebare’s studio in Northumberland. It is a wonderful opportunity to knit this jumper in the yarn made just metres away from the inspiration!
Main colour – 1 full skein Yeavering Bell DK and 1 full skein Cheviot Marsh 4ply.
Contrast colour – 1 full skein Yeavering Bell DK and 1 full skein Cheviot Marsh 4ply.
4.5mm needles for the hat. 5mm needles for the cowl.
Because the yarns are held two together you will find you have plenty of yarn left over after knitting your hat. So it’s time to get co-ordinated. There’s enough to knit two hats, one for you and one for your bestie, or a small person.
But if one hat is enough worry not, because also included is the pattern for the matching cowl! You could even reverse the colours!
How Much Yarn Will I Need?
This design is knitted holding a strand of Yeavering Bell DK and a strand of Cheviot Marsh 4ply together, both for the main colour and the contrast colour. This creates a lovely soft and squishy fabric with the halo of the mohair and the bouncy lambswool.
Main colour – 1 Yeavering Bell DK and 1 Cheviot Marsh 4ply.
Contrast colour – 1 skein Yeavering Bell DK and 1 skein Cheviot Marsh 4ply.
When you have chosen the colours you like the correct number of skeins will be added to your basket automatically.
