Scribbly Gum Socks by Helen Stewart – Curious Handmade

We love these socks designed by Helen Stewart.

Scribbly gum socks have a fun twisted stitch pattern down the front of the leg.

This was inspired by the iconic scribbles that are etched on eucalyptus trees by moths that decorate the bark with natural graffiti making beautiful patterns.

Available in three sizes, the sock is finished with a regular slipped stitch heel flap and gusset and a wedge toe, and will take just one skein of our Cuthbert’s sock yarn.

Please always swatch to check that you meet the gauge of the pattern, and adjust your needles if necessary.

Made with our Cuthbert's sock

Whistlebare’s own sock yarn, 80% mohair and 20% Wensleydale from our own goats and sheep, tightly twisted for hard working feet.

Mohair is the perfect fibre for socks. It has the highest rub test of any natural fibre so you don’t need nylon. Nothing is better for keeping cold feet warm and hot feet cool than natural fibres. Mohair and Wensleydale are very lustrous and smooth, meaning bacteria can’t get hold and so there is no smell! All round the perfect blend for active feet.
