Whistlebare nestles between the roaring North Sea in the East, and the majestic Cheviot Hills to the South and West. We take great pride in reflecting this spectacular landscape and the woolly history of Northumberland in everything we produce.

Our Cheviot Marsh yarn and the resulting Whistlebare Tweed embodies this entirely.  The yarn is woollen spun 100% lambswool from sheep that are less than six months old and graze the College Valley at the heart of the Cheviot Hills, this is then woven into our very own Whistlebare Tweed.

Whistlebare Tweed is woven in anything but traditional colours. We took our signature Whistlebare colours and designed a Tweed that would compliment them, and the dramatic colours of the wonderful area in which we farm. Everything that goes into these cushions was grown, spun, woven, finished and sewn in North East England and the Scottish Borders, they are truly locally born and bred.

Handmade on the farm our cushions are 16″ square with an all natural feather pad from Edinburgh Feather Co. Before sewing the tweed is very carefully washed and dried to give a lightly felted, soft and warm finish. The edges of the cushion are then blanket stitched, by hand, in Yeavering Bell 4ply. The cushion cover is not removable and should only be carefully sponged to clean.

The tweed was woven to include four different colourways, each named after a different time of the day and the light therein.

Sunlight has deep golds, oranges and pinks – the colours of the dawn.
Moonlight has deep dark blues in an inky midnight sky.
Twilight is dusky purples and blues reflecting the time just after sunset.
Skylight reminds me of the sky over the sea on a bright winters day.

Each cushion is cut from different areas of the tweed making each one unique. Some cushions match, front and back, some are half one colour and half another on each side, and finally some have a different front from back! Please choose your cushion individually from the photos.
